Welcome to Kensington
Community. Culture. Commerce
We love Kensington! It’s a vibrant, social community alive with art galleries, music, restaurants, shops, and a wonderful year-round farmers’ market. In addition, Kensington plays hosts to many annual and seasonal events that draw visitors from around Montgomery County and greater Maryland — and beyond.
A historic town located in Montgomery County and in an ideal location – just four miles from Washington, D.C., two miles from the I-495 Capital Beltway and one-half mile from the Rock Creek-Beach Drive bike path. It’s also just two miles from the Wheaton Metro, which is on the red line, and has a stop on the MARC train.
Even better, it’s home to Rock Creek Park and its 1,754 acres of bike trails, creeks, and fun outdoor adventures!
The area around the Rock Creek basin where Kensington now sits was largely agricultural in 1873 when the B&O Railroad completed a rail line which crossed Montgomery County. Today it is home to nearly 2,500 residents. The residents love living in a small town that offers the best of modern living — great shopping and dining, yet easy access to the Metro, and metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis.
You will find a variety of single-family homes from cute bungalows and ramblers, to historic Victorians and Craftsman style new construction developments. Welcome home to tree-lined streets, lots of green space, parks and easy living!
